The golf course is the oldest of the Manoir's pleasures after the river itself. The hotel's history page records that it was officially inaugurated in 1925 in the presence of William Howard Taft, the former President of the United States, and Herbert Strong, the landscape architect. A hundred years later, in 2025, the Association des Clubs de golf du Québec named it Club de golf de l'année. In between, it has become one of the reasons people book the hotel at all.
The course
The hotel describes a 27-hole course laid out on rolling hills with views of the river: "elevated fairways", "sculpted greens" and holes at varied elevations, so that each one opens a new view. Its sustainability page adds two details that we found striking: the whole course is irrigated only with collected rainwater, and the hotel plants a range of tree species across it. The hotel does not name its three nines on its own pages, so we do not either.

After the round
Le Point Cardinal sits by the course with a terrace overlooking the fairways and the river. It serves breakfast and lunch during the golf season and is, the hotel says, the place for "a post-round drink". We would add: it is also worth the walk up for non-golfers on a clear day.
The other course in town
La Malbaie has a second celebrated course, the Club de Golf Murray Bay, which the regional tourism office lists alongside the Manoir's. Wikipedia's article on La Malbaie dates the Murray Bay Golf Club to 1876 and calls it the third-oldest course in North America and the oldest still operating at the same location. Golfers staying several days might want a round on each.
Planning a golf stay
For a golf weekend we would book a Fairmont View room — you will be out most of the day, and the river view tells you in the morning what the wind is doing. Early-season rounds in May and late-season rounds in October can be cool on the heights; autumn colour in late September and early October is the reason many golfers choose those weeks. The hotel publishes golf packages that include breakfast and preferred access to the course; ask us and we will tell you what is available on your dates. Tee times themselves are booked with the hotel's golf team.
