Fairmont View rooms: the smallest room with the river

Same size as the entry room, same kit — and the St. Lawrence filling the window. For many guests this is the best value in the house.

The difference between a Fairmont room and a Fairmont View room is not in the furniture. It is in the window. Both are 21-square-metre rooms with the same 42-inch television, Nespresso machine, kettle and mini-bar. The View room faces the river, and at Pointe-au-Pic the river is something you will look at more than any screen.

Why the view earns its place

The St. Lawrence in front of the Manoir is an estuary many kilometres wide. On clear days the south shore is a line of low hills; on others it disappears and the water simply runs to the sky. Ships pass on their way to and from the Great Lakes. In the morning the light comes in low from the east, and in the evening the cliffs throw long shadows over the water. We think the view is the single best reason to stay at the Manoir rather than in the town below, and this category is the least expensive way to secure it.

A note on the Two Double version

The hotel's page for the Fairmont View Two Double does not state the room's size, and the same page gives a capacity figure that we do not think fits a room of this kind. We have left both out. If you are booking it for three or four people, ask us to confirm the dimensions and the maximum number of guests before you commit.

Who it suits

Couples on a two- or three-night stay who will spend time in the room in the early morning and at dusk. Solo travellers who want the river without paying for a sitting area they will not use. Golfers who want to watch the weather over the water before deciding on a tee time.

When to choose something else

If you will be in the room for long stretches — reading, working, resting after the spa — the Deluxe View rooms add a sitting area with a sofa and six more square metres. Families travelling with children who need a separate bed should compare the Two Double here with the Deluxe View Two Double, which has the sofa bed as well.

What to write on the request sheet

Choose "Fairmont View room" in the room line and tell us the bed type. If you have a preference for a higher floor or a room looking east toward the mouth of the river, mention it in the note; we will pass it on, though the hotel decides room allocation at check-in.

The request sheet

Write your dates and the room you have in mind on the lines below. A person at our desk checks what the Manoir has open for those nights, with the hotel or a booking partner, and answers by email.

Thank you — your sheet has reached our desk. We check the dates with the hotel or a booking partner and write back with what is open and the price. Nothing is booked or charged until you agree.

We are paid a booking commission only when a request sent from this sheet becomes a confirmed stay — by the hotel or by the booking partner that completes it, never by you. How we earn. This is a request, not a reservation, and we never ask for a card number.
